ELKE VAN CAMPENHOUT

The Sex Asylum

©

© Jonas Maes

The artistic research project The Sex Asylum is an attempt to rescue sexual and vital energies from being commodified, commercialized, pornographised and reduced to lifestyle attributes. In a time when intimate encounters have become suspect, we open up the body to receive the other, be it another body, daily objects, or even space itself, and connect intimately with their vibration. In this realm the body can shapeshift, change or transform sex, and invent practices we would not associate with sexuality in any other context.

We create an asylum as a place of refuge from everyday reduction and normativization, but also as a place to set our imaginary potential free, and a constant flow of (un)molding and rediscovery.
