NANCY NAOUS

Mada, to each body its own dance

©

© Didier Olivré

Inspired by my choreographic practice, Mada (the expanse or the depth) is a creative physical training (for dancers and / or for people from different disciplines and different levels) in which participants explore their own movement while questioning their gestural and motor experiences, their cultural practices, their rhythms, their relationship to the body, their perceptions of the body and their vision of the word ‘dance’. The workshop is divided into two parts: The first part includes a warm-up, a series of exercises, jumps and crossings. The second part focuses on improvisation tools as well as on the use of words in order to awaken the creative communication of the body.

  • Artist Bio

    Nancy Naous

is a choreographer and performer born in Beirut to a Palestinian mother and a Lebanese father. Nancy studied Theatre, Performing Arts and Dance in Beirut and Paris where she started to develop her personal work around the resonance of violence in the body – in all its forms – and founded her company 4120.CORPS (the number 4120 refers to the distance in kilometers between Beirut and Paris). Nancy's work oscillates between dance and theatre and is influenced by gestures, rituals and rhythms from Arab societies. She is currently working on a performance based on testimonies of mothers and wives of missing persons from the Lebanese civil war (1975-1990). 4120pointcorps.com
