Step into the universe of Imperial Ball, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s new creation for the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, where dance bridges past and present. Anchored meticulously to the music of Johann Strauss, the workshop explores the idea of “social dance”, fusing explicit nods to grand imperial waltzes – symbols of aristocratic order and vehicle of cultural globalization – with the aesthetics, togetherness, and freedom of the ballroom scenes of today’s major cities. Expect an unexpected weave of research and flow, isolation and deconstruction, house dance, the eclectic spirit of urban styles, and contemporary takes on the waltz.

Tech info: participants may work barefoot or in lightweight sneakers, at their discretion.
