Imagination allows us to form a different mental picture of ourselves and our social relations. ‘Nothing happens in the real world unless it first happens in our head’, wrote feminist Chicana author Gloria Anzaldúa and proposed speculative fiction as a methodology to study how scenarios could shift and reconfigure, ‘materialising hope and optimism’. Imagination points to a place elsewhere: to the possible beyond the real. An eruption after which everything is different. In the 2023 film C-TV (If I Tell You I Like You…) by Eva Egermann and Cordula Thym, such a mysterious quake occurs, and a political utopia of equality unfolds.
