WILLIAM BRISCOE

Vogue Femme

Vogue Femme is a category that originated in the House Ballroom scene, where Butch Queens (cisgender men) imitated Fem Queens (trans women). Voguing itself is a highly stylized form of dance created by Black and Latino LGBTQ communities in Harlem, NYC. Emerging in the late 1980s, it evolved out of the Harlem Ballroom culture of the 1960s as an expression of gender liberation and empowerment.

In this class, we will explore gender expression as performance, journeying through the five elements of Vogue Femme while celebrating the divine feminine – its strength, sensuality, and wisdom – all to the sounds of Ballroom beats. Bring it to the Runway, darling! Bring out the sass! Rock your heels, boots, sneakers – whatever makes you feel fierce and fabulous in your Vogue Fem vibe. Knee pads are a great idea too, but totally optional.
