EVA SCHALLER

visceral musicalities

© Long Chen

The workshop invites participants on a journey to experience a profound physical warm-up, guided by principles and tools from the Countertechnique class. It introduces practices of using the voice in movement as a performative practice that lets layers of imaginative, emotional, and narrative qualities emerge in dancing and performing.

Through a series of set and open exercises, dancers will explore spatial awareness, direction, volume, weight, dynamic balance, and begin to explore soft and safe partnering. Step by step, the practice continues to invite the dancer’s voice into the movement, opening a channel towards a state of interconnectedness between moving and sounding. Through improvisational tasks, we will explore in greater depth how the use of voice can become a tool for unleashing playfulness and engaging with one’s embodied musicality, rhythm, and even language. What if virtuosity were just another individual expression of connectedness and abundance in movement?
