Borrowing from existing gestural traditions of interruption, refusal and resistance spotted in the alleyways of our practices, this workshop will be based on a glossary-repertoire of REST PRACTICES, speculating on the socio-political stakes of specific senses and sensations of resting. We will: REST from the current economy of creativity and novelty / REST from performance (of the self) / REST from using language, and anything else for that matter as a conveyor of clarity, fluency and transparency / REST in indeterminacy / REST in a text (a word, in a spell, in a library) / REST in the rests, the ruins, les invendus (the unsold / the leftovers) / REST in gestures, movements / REST in poetic non-action / REST between languages, in the shade of our shady mother tongues.
Restshop #2 is part of a research project entitled Institute of Rest(s). Supported by La Manufacture, Haute école des arts de la scène – HES-SO, Lausanne. In partnership with Tanzquartier Wien, La Grange – Centre / Arts et Sciences / UNIL Lausanne, Xing Bologna, far Nyon, Tanzfabrik Berlin, the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art, Vienna, ImPulsTanz, Vienna. Alix Eynaudi holds a 2023 research grant from the city of Vienna.

Artist Bio
Alix Eynaudi’s
work is situated within the field of expanded choreography. Some of her works explore different formats of making work public, such as books and other writing, and learning platforms. Alongside developing her own work, she works as a dancer and performer with/for other artists (Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker, Jennifer Lacey, Anne Juren, Boris Charmatz, Sabina Holzer, Elizabeth Ward). Her most recent endeavours are BRUNO, Noa & Snow, and Institute of Rest(s). Approaching dance as a space of study, Alix dances, works, and writes between craft and chaos. She doesn’t work alone; any event, research, or invitation is an alibi to spend time with accomplices, a mesh of friendships scintillating under skins, a stirring of full-of-wonder support. alixeynaudi.comAri Ban
is an illustrator, writer, and dresser, currently studying Contextual Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. He focuses on researching queer history, particularly by studying biographies and collecting intimate details within them – this shift of attention towards the relational forms the basis of his work with drawing and text. -
