RESTING VOICES: A LIBRARY IN PIECES

Resting Voices: A Library in Pieces is an oral library that can be experienced lying down. It takes the form of a series of listening sessions, or an installation inviteable into libraries, as the case may be. Between the listening sessions, it remains available as an audio library at TQW, in the form of pillow books.

Drawn from the archive of the Institute of Rest(s), voices and texts are laid out au ras du sol – at ground level – sampled, dispersed, not quite re-activated but made available. Poets’ voices, scores for bodies that may or may not show up. The sessions invest in the pleasure of listening detached from the necessity to arrive anywhere, asking what shape the body needs to take, whether words can slide under the skin rather than bounce off it. Bien lire n’est pas lire: c’est autre chose (misquoting Laura Vazquez).

The installation at the TQW Library is on view from 17 October through 12 December.
