LAURA PUDELEK

Jam Sessions

When I improvise, I begin by perceiving the space, the people present, myself, and the tension created by these factors. When I start playing, I react to the sound that has been created, the movement that was made. I follow my impulses to establish what is there, to develop it further, exaggerate it, or interrupt it. This puts me in a flow state and immerses me in the here and now. This process involves striking a balance between trance-like immersion and the concentration required to create a coherent composition. Using technical tools such as loops and sound effects, I develop complex, multi-layered soundscapes in which the unexpected drives the sound story forward. I build a space through which I can move.
