The HEAR & NOW play sessions bring dancers of all styles and jazz musicians together in a collaborative space to find and experience ways and tools to communicate and listen to each other. Inspired by Don Cherry and his 1976 album Hear and Now, featuring Moki Cherry’s iconic cover art, choreographer and dancer Naïma Mazic / n ï m company guides task-based improvisational sessions together with a jazz musician, merging rhythm, movement, and sound. Each session starts by proposing methods and ideas. For example, how can the responsibility for the pulse and rhythm be shared by everybody?

Artist Bio
Naïma Mazic
is a dancer and choreographer and founded the n ï m company in 2016. In 2024, she served as the artistic director of Lake Studios Berlin and its Submerge festival. She has been a resident choreographer at K3 Tanzplan Hamburg/Kampnagel Naïma holds an MA in Performance Studies from NYU TISCH (New York) and studied at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. She was part of the Hip Hop Continuum at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in the U.S. and at ImPulsTanz DanceWeb in 2015 and 2022. Her work focuses on the communication between dancers and jazz musicians, exploring polyrhythms and musical structures, all enriched by sensuality.
