CHRISTINE GAIGG / 2ND NATURE
Go for it let go
© Alexi Pelekanos
Christine Gaigg’s latest instalment in her series concerning the social foundation of sexuality addresses another overlooked subject. Go for it let go looks into a phenomenon which has been rediscovered and taken for granted but has also historically been the subject of taboos and repression for centuries: female ejaculation. Representing empowerment as well as loss of control of a self-aware female sexuality, female ejaculation is and has been at the centre of various social controversies. It is a provocative performance: Whatever happens happens.
This documentary project, which was originally set to premiere in February 2021, was created entirely during lockdown, including research, rehearsals and the final stage design. In November 2020, an advertisement was placed in the weekly newspaper Falter reading ‘Looking for women who cum’. Following many one-on-one conversations (during walks in parks, which reopened during the second lockdown), Gaigg chose three women for the performance Go for it let go, who will now talk intimately about their experiences squirting and ejaculating.

Artist Bio
Christine Gaigg
studied philosophy in Vienna and dance and choreography at the School for New Dance Development (SNDO) in Amsterdam. After many years of collaborating with composers from the genre of Neue Musik (such as Bernhard Lang Maschinenhalle #1, opening event at steirischer herbst 2010, among others), her focus has shifted to the genre of “performance essay”, a format that allows her to address socio-political issues in a way that combines both emotional and analytical approaches. Performances include the productions DeSacre! Pussy Riot meets Vaslav Nijinsky (2013) as well as CLASH (2016), a response to the attacks on the LGBT club Pulse in Orlando. Productions previously shown at TQW include the three parts of Gaigg’s trilogy on the chemistry of desire: Maybe the way you made love twenty years ago is the answer? (2014, 2018), the intimate meeting space Meet (2018) and Affair (2019). -
