Fampitaha, fampita, fampitàna

Four performers defy the violence that shaped them as children of the diaspora over generations. In a vibrant mix of dance, music and costumes, Soa Ratsifandrihana celebrates the notion that not only words, but bodies and sounds too can rewrite the history we have inherited.

“Fampitaha, fampita, fampitàna” means “comparison, transmission and rivalry” in Malagasy. On the stage, four bodies challenge each other, choose each other, and purge themselves of the (layers of) violence that constitute them. Choreographer Soa Ratsifandrihana searches for a vocabulary between bodies and history to understand what links them and what sets them apart. She has teamed up with guitarist Joël Rabesolo and performers Audrey Merilus and Constant Bitihuse to build a new alterity in which bodies emerge from their silence by offering themselves the possibility of language. Fampitaha, fampita, fampitàna is presented as a rediscovered line of dialogue between the children of diasporas and their places of origin. A plural narrative in which the shattering of these experiences is as vibrant as their reappropriation. Written out before us is the story of bodies that would never have left their islands, and which, together, are fashioning a parade against exile.

Artist Bio

Soa Ratsifandrihana

is a Franco-Malagasy dancer and choreographer based in Brussels. In 2021, after dancing with Rosas for several years, she presented her first solo, entitled g r oo v e. The show has been performed over forty times and continues to tour Europe. Her work reminds us that our bodies, just like our words, are bearers of stories, and that, however we communicate them, they must be told. Soa Ratsifandrihana will be an associate artist of Charleroi Danse as of September 2026.
