Exposure to a community to come

This transdisciplinary research examines the materiality of writing, which means the writing and being written of bodies in relation to their environment. What are the inscriptions, indentions and traces? As writing is based on movement, gestures, vibration and time, surfaces and (writing) instruments, reading will evolve into an awareness of listening and getting in touch.

It is an invitation to a future nature-culture fiction about the mess we’re in. And how we are struggling with scribbling gestures to make sense of time. It is an invitation to listen to choreographies of coexistence, to detect endangered seeds and to delve into our relations with them.

Following the need to act in solidarity, we share our artistic practices and investigate transversal alliances. They involve non-human agents, technologic-ally-mediated elements, earth-others (land, waters, plants, animals) and non-human inorganic agents (plastic, wires, information highways, algorithms, etc.).

The semantic field of Medusa has the capacity to accommodate this heterogenous, elusive assemblage of a materially embodied and embedded community. With Medusa’s help, we will investigate an ecology in which all matter is specifically situated as a vibrant, vital presence in order to create a space for experimentation, imagination and poetry.

The lecture It lay like a log absolutely motionless and apparently deprived of all its faculties by our damp climate, so inhospitable to foreign visitors by Jeroen Peeters has been invited within the scope of this lab.
