Artistic Keynote Lecture
Eva von Redecker: Movements for life

The starting point for Eva von Redecker’s lecture is the machinery of contemporary capitalism, which is hostile to all life forms. Redecker highlights the fatal effects of property and exploitation, sovereignty and competition and how human relations and ecological cycles are defined, dominated, separated and stifled. The catastrophe that is climate change has already taken place in the mind of those beings and objects who have suffered under the capitalist system. Still, Western society’s so-called Loss of World in Modernity may be the dominant but not the only contemporary way of life. Gestures and attitudes from different social movements can be read as alternatives. Saving lives, regenerative work, sharing and maintaining goods – these are some trends that have joined the fight against the ongoing destruction of life. This movement may still be in its infancy, only nurtured in nests of solidarity while it faces rising fascist tendencies, but it is also virtuous and diverse. An evening of critical theory – and of the changing face of resistance.
