Casino beyond salsa and salsa basics

In the piece Casino, three dancers meet through salsa dancing in silence, and a series of complex situations unfold. We’ll try out some of the choreographic practices behind the work, focusing on how to relate to one another. Casino is not dealing with representations of salsa; however, salsa is still part of the foundation of the piece. We will learn some of the salsa basics together and use that as our vocabulary when we move through the other choreographic practices. All levels welcome.

Artist Bio
Ofelia Jarl Ortega
is a Chilean-Swedish choreographer and performer based in Stockholm. Her work centers around vulnerability and femininity, often with a suggestive erotic aesthetic, where questions around power and group dynamics are at the core of her investigations. She holds a diploma from The Royal Swedish Ballet School (2010) and an MA in Choreography from Stockholm University of the Arts (2014). Her works have been shown at ImPulsTanz (Vienna), MDT (Stockholm), Inkonst (Malmö), Arsenic (Lausanne), and Moving in November (Helsinki), among others.
