Daniel Aschwanden & Barbara Eichhorn invite participants to take part in an introductory “guided” session and, eventually, in an independently created improvisational process. From a perspective of choreography, lines will be drawn while the experience of drawing will feed the act of dancing. Dance inspires a drawing just like the sketch is spontaneously being interpreted as a musical notation and score for movement. A drawing’s surface serves as physical counterpart to dance’s unboundedness: in space, on the wall, on the floor. Self- and body awareness as well as expanding “one’s dimensions” will enable sensuous forms of knowledge, which assist in exploring and reflecting upon one’s own agency and help in creating a better understanding of spaces of dance and drawing. This performative work of translation and surveying will create, experimentally apply and investigate choreographic/movement-based and physical sketches as well as the corresponding spaces that will arise in the in-between. What happens to my body – both in the drawing and the movement – if I drew a faint line or performed an exaggerated gesture? Where do pencil tip, elbow and knee intersect? What material is being created by all this scribbling and scurrying, and at what point does it come to an end in each respective space?

  • Artist Bio

    Daniel Aschwanden

is a performer and choreographer creating works of art in a social context. He has created performative interventions in urban spaces across Europe, Asia and Africa and he focuses primarily on aspects of cultural exchange and communication. His transdisciplinary art practice comprises performance projects and installations in public space, black box and white cube settings.

    Barbara Eichhorn

is an artist. Her work investigates the ways in which drawing can be exploited artistically: She regards drawing as a process of perception, a sphere of reflection – but always in relation to the body. Her work is concerned with tracing a presence, to regard the drawing as a physical agent and counterpart. Eichhorn’s use of media oscillates between image, performative drawing and installation.
