LO AND BEHOLD explores experimental sound and music as performative practices and interrogates the theater space as a place for sensitive listening experiences.
In March, contemporary jazz icon and composer Angel Bat Dawid makes her debut in Vienna with a new piece: a tribute to and reinterpretation of Joel Augustus Rogers’ seminal work Sex & Race, Vol. 1 from 1940, merging clarinet, piano, voice, neoclassical and ancient compositional techniques and improvisation.
RP Boo and XT (drummer Paul Abbott and saxophonist Seymour Wright) share a fascination with Chicago’s musical history. As one of the founders of the footwork genre, RP Boo continues to develop the rhythmic structures of Chicago House as well as the samples, grooves and melodies of Black music of the 1960s and 70s, while XT broaden the field by adding Chicago’s jazz traditions to the mix. A rare treat to see the trio live in Vienna ahead of time. Further performances as part of a 2026 European tour will take RP Boo and XT to the legendary Cafe OTO in London, among other places, where they recorded their first joint release, YESYESPEAKERSYES.

RP Boo
a.k.a. Kavain Wayne Space is a Chicago-based electronic musician, producer and DJ, who is revered and respected amongst the dance music cognoscenti. He’s cited as one of the originators of Footwork, the fast, repetitive, rhythmically syncopated music and dance style that’s a grandchild of Chicago house and which has been brought to the wider world via releases from Planet Mu and others, alongside internet archaeology from fans, experts and enthusiasts.
XT (Paul Abbott And Seymour Wright)
Opening possibilities of language and learning from below, XT bounce questions of the specific material conditions, histories and logics of the saxophone and drum kit in a flexible, manifold process of collaboration, augmentation, bifurcation, antagonism and technological and somatic feedback. Increasingly, they plug in, using synthetic and amplified saxophone and drums to extend, magnify and delay what they do. The project explicitly folds together their overlapping interests in language, learning, politics and an investigative ethics of emancipation.
