OFFICE FOR A HUMAN THEATRE

A Nomadic Book

© Giacomo Bianco

A Nomadic Book expands and celebrates the first five editions of the Nomadic School. Created in 2020 by Office for a Human Theatre, the school takes place every summer at around 2,000 meters in the Alps, with the aim of developing, as the book’s curators Filippo Andreatta and Sarah Messerschmidt write, “a program of alternative pedagogy rooted in artistic creativity, practicing horizontal learning and pedagogical openness“. The Alps become “places to rethink the very notion of theater, as a multispecies art form” and “a site where different organisms can interact to produce unexpected and surprising connections“. The reading group is thus an open constellation of texts around inner and outer landscapes. The readings interspersed with conversation, are shared over a picnic with the public and current and past participants. Everyone is welcome to tune in and share their readings to create an ongoing landscape of words.

Office for a Human Theatre [OHT]

is based in the Alps and deals with performing arts, landscape and personal politics subtly addressed in public and private space. Led by Filippo Andreatta and Anna Benazzoli, OHT oscillates within the boundaries of theatre and beyond by collaborating with festivals, city councils, traditional theatres, foundations, underground realities and museums. Amidst mountains, swamps and other rural areas, OHT contaminates arts with natural and social sciences by realising a project of radical pedagogy; the Nomadic School. Among other realities, OHT has collaborated with Saari residence, Piccolo Teatro di Milano, Schinkel Pavillion Berlin, La Serre Arts Vivants, Venice Biennale Theatre, Pinacoteca Agnelli, Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Fondazione i Teatri Reggio Emilia, Short Theatre festival Rome, FAR Nyon festival, Romaeuropa festival, Triennale Teatro Milano, Whitechapel Gallery London, MAXXI museum of the Arts of XXI Century Rome and Centrale Fies.
