Dance On Tour Austria

The aim of DOTA is to facilitate and promote guest performances within Europe. Tanzquartier Wien is responsible for the administrative management of the project and acts as an intermediary between applicants and the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.

The project exclusively supports artists and companies based in Austria. Applications can be submitted by organizers from abroad as well as by artists and companies based in Austria.

The guest performance funding covers the whole of Europe.

The applicant needs to submit the application form (for artists or promoters respectively) to apply for DOT funding. In case of a successful application, the applicant will need to sign a contract by which they comply with all terms and conditions of the billing and report agreements. 

Applications are open now and must be submitted no later than six weeks before the planned guest performance date. The grant will be awarded for the year 2025, i.e., the guest performance must take place between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

If approved, the following expenses can be covered: travel costs, transportation costs, accommodation costs, and daily allowances.

An independent three-member jury regularly decides on the awarding of grants. The jury consists of Angela Glechner, Esther Holland-Merten, and Astrid Peterle.

Applicants who are selected by the jury and receive funding will be contacted by Tanzquartier Wien.

Angela Glechner

has been artistic director and commercial manager of SZENE Salzburg and the Sommerszene festival since June 2012 and is responsible for the EU program apap – advancing performing arts project. Previously, she was curator for the program of the International Summer Festival Hamburg, curator of the freelance art scene in the cultural department of the City of Vienna, and project manager responsible for content for the EU-funded program IDEE (Initiatives in Dance through European Exchange).

Esther Holland-Merten

has been artistic director of Theater am Werk in Vienna since the 2023/24 season. From 2017 to 2023, she was artistic director of WUK performing arts, a cultural institution for performance and dance art in Vienna. She launched an artist-in-residence program for performance artists at Schauspiel Leipzig, was responsible for the contemporary drama program at various theaters, organized festivals, served on numerous juries, and taught at the University of Vienna and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She is a mentor for the Retzhofer Drama Prize and has been chair of the board of the Dramaturgische Gesellschaft since 2023.
 

Astrid Peterle

has been Head of Curatorial Programming at the Kunsthalle Wien since June 2022. From 2010 to 2022, she worked for the Jewish Museum of the City of Vienna, becoming Chief Curator in 2018. Since May 2017, she has been Curator of Performance at the donaufestival Krems. After studying history and art history in Vienna, Berlin, and New York, she received her doctorate in 2009 and worked as a lecturer at the universities of Vienna, Graz, and Salzburg. She is the author of numerous articles on contemporary art, particularly performance art, choreography, photography, and feminist art practice, as well as on Jewish cultural history.
