The training scholarship holders for the season 2012/13, have been decided:

•    Sophia Papanikandrou (GR/A)
•    Yi Yi Wang (CN/A)

Sophia Papanikandrou is a graduate of the dance institute SEAD; Yi Yi Wang graduated in the department of dance at the Konservatorium Wien University.

Both convinced the jury with their qualities in the field of dance technique, improvisation and the showing of their own solos.

In all, seven dancers from the Austrian dance institutes took part in the audition on May 5th. The participants were from SEAD – Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, Konservatorium Wien University and IDA – Institute for Dance Arts / Anton Bruckner Private University. This year’s jurors were Lance Gries (USA), Bettina Kogler (A), Sabine Parzer (A) and Katrin Roschangar (D/A).

Tanzquartier Vienna initiated the scholarships to support young dancers in Austria and to make the often difficult access to a professional career and to the dance scene easier.

The training scholarship holders for the 2011/12 season have been decided:

·    Stefanie Sternig
·    Verena Steiner

Stefanie Sternig is a graduate of the Vienna Conservatory, department dance, and Verena Steiner is a graduate of the IDA – Institute for Dance Arts / Anton Bruckner Private University.

Stefanie and Verena convinced the jury through the quality of their dance, their individual choreographic style and their artistic interest. The scholarship is intended to give them the opportunity to follow their interests at an artistic as well as a dancing level and to develop and deepen their skills.

In all, nine dancers from the Austrian dance training institutes took part in the audition on 4 June 2011. They were from the IDA – Institute for Dance Arts / Anton Bruckner Private University, the Vienna Conservatory, department dance with the degree programme contemporary dance pedagogics and contemporary & classical dance, and SEAD – Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance. This year’s jurors were Bruno Caverna, Moravia Naranjo, Christine Standfest and Katrin Roschangar.

The scholarship is intended to help the dancers in the often difficult transition between training and a career and to facilitate the way into professional working life.

Professional, subsidised companies can also avail themselves of training at the Tanzquartier Wien at a reduced rate.
