JANEZ JANŠA (SLO)

Who is next?

Austrian première

Although our democratic societies seemingly offer unlimited possibilities of shaping our life, their  ttempt to protect the rights of individuals and humans in general at the same time produces new restrictions and control mechanisms – for art, too.
In his new work, the stage director and choreographer Janez Janša together with a group of Slovenian artists dedicates himself to some of the basic questions of a time which is marked by a striving for visibility, transparency and flexibility. Doubtless something has to happen – but what? And by whom? And is art a place where this action can take place? Who decides what is shown, and who decides what is remembered? Is there any alternative of localising art outside the economic system in society?
Who is next? deals with the personal, legal, ethic and social restrictions we face in contemporary artistic processes. In a mixture of choreography, music and film, several actors negotiate the question of individual responsibility in a contemporary society which is confronted with recession, shock, precariousness, insecurity and indifference.
