Film & Discussion

In the framework of the guest performance Blue Lady [revisited] the renowned French film-maker and philosopher André S. Labarthe will present his film Carolyn Carlson (Solo). The documentary, filmed in the context of the première of the work in Venice in 1984, provides insights into Carolyn Carlson’s rehearsal processes and her fascinating work on the format of the dance solo.
André S. Labarthe has worked since 1955 among other things as an editor and film critic for Radio-Cinéma, France-Observateur and Les Cahiers du Cinéma and from 1964 to 1972 together with Janine Bazin produced the film-portrait series Cinéastes de notre temps. In the context of his occupation with dance, he also directed Sylvie Guillem au travail (1988) and William Forsythe au travail (1989) as well as films on Patrick Dupont and Ushio Amagatsu.

Following the film presentation there will be a discussion with André S. Labarthe.
